Introduction

The KY-031 Knock Sensor module is a vibration sensor that detects knocks and taps and sends a signal. A spring-based sensor, a 10 k resistor, and three male header pins make up this module. When there is a vibration, the spring generates a loud signal. When it senses the vibration, this module’s spring-based sensor emits a HIGH signal. It may be utilized in a variety of security and monitoring systems. It works with the Arduino board as well as any other microcontroller.

Construction and Working of Sensor

The switch is made up of two terminals, one of which forms a center post and the other of which is a spring that surrounds the center post. When enough force is applied to the switch, the spring-loaded terminal moves and shorts the two terminals together. The knock sensor detects knocks and taps. It can function as a switch. The sensor delivers data to the board in real-time.

Where to locate the Sensor?

The switch’s location is also crucial. In general, the switch should be physically situated as close to the monitored region as practicable. Otherwise, additional system elements/components in your project may reduce the vibration reported.

Applications

Security Systems

One of the most pressing issues in everyday life is security. And, therefore, we need technology to help us. Hence, the presence of an intruder is detected by a knock-sensing element within a detector, but it must be triggered before we need to open an alarm contact to notify the incursion.
