Introduction

Batteries would have no application if we don’t have their chargers with them. Charger circuits influence electronic gadgets and circuits. The charger circuits rely upon the battery type. Typical electronic gadgets use various batteries for their circuits. For instance, consider the Lead Acid Battery Charger Circuit, the charger circuit it used probably doesn’t get used by some others. In this tutorial, we are going to make a ” 12V SLA Battery Charger Circuit “

An Overview of Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) Battery

Lead Acid Battery has two electrodes. Grains of metallic lead oxide material make the positive electrode, and its negative electrode is connected to a grid of metallic lead. Unlike, unsealed or flooded batteries, a sealed battery doesn’t contain liquid that will spill out, and thus they are sealed and maintenance-free. This battery is rechargeable and below we have given its charging circuit details. We usually use the battery in emergency lighting circuits, battery-operated vehicles, etc. These batteries are easy to handle and are economical too.

Working Explanation

This 12V SLA Battery Charger Circuit first uses the transformer that steps down AC voltage from 230V to 15V. After that, it needs a bridge rectifier circuit to convert that Ac voltage to the DC voltage. After the rectifier circuit, it may have ripples in it, the capacitor in the circuit would remove that. This L7812 IC takes the DC input and regulates that. The diode is there too diode present in the circuit. On the output side, You get the 12V DC to charge the battery

Application and Uses

The circuit is for the Lead Acid Battery Charger and can be utilized everywhere where this battery may get used. For example,

  • Emergency lighting circuits
  • In case of power failure, power sump pumps.
  • Electrical vehicles, etc
