Electronic Coin Toss With Slow Down Function

Here is an interesting and fun project of an electronic coin toss with a slow-down function. This circuit is simple and very useful, it is using a slowdown function in which the LEDs will start to blink really fast when push button S1 is pressed but this speed will gradually decrease and stops on anyone LED showing the final decision whether its Heads or tails.

Working Explanation

The operating voltage of this circuit is 5 to 12 volts DC. The circuit is built around two ICs i.e., NE555 timer IC and a decade counter IC CD4017. There are two parts in this circuit, the first one is built around a 555 timer IC that is working as an astable multivibrator here. A 2N3906 transistor is also used, the IC will provide the pulses at a fast to slow speed. The second part has the CD4017 IC, this decade’s counter IC has 10 outputs but we are only using two outputs one for the head and the other for the tail. The third output is connected with the reset.

After pushing the button S1 the 555 timers will start generating the clock pulses on pin 14 of the CD4017 IC because of this LEDs 1 and 2 will start to blink in speed. These pulses will gradually decrease in speed and stop on anyone LED showing the result.
