Introduction

Wireless electronic devices can’t work without batteries. Laptops, mobile phones, electronic gadgets, gaming devices, etc need batteries. Or, in other words, batteries are the basic need of these devices. And, now, when an era is working on smaller and lighter components, but still different devices demand different sizes of batteries . . And, here the li-ion batteries made their way, which are available with different sizes and current ratings. Their sizes and weight usually impress the designers to employ them in their devices. But, today our primary topic is not the battery yet their chargers. So, in this tutorial, we are going to make a “li-ion battery charger circuit using 4056”

Working Explanation

In this Li-ion Battery Charger circuit, we are using an IC 4056 which is taking an input voltage range from 4.5V to 6.5V and providing an output of 4.2V with 700mA of output current. A PNP transistor in the circuit is providing the current drive to the battery output. R2 Resistor and C2 Capacitor are working as timer elements. while Capacitor C1 works as an input supply filter. The LED in the circuit shows the charging duration. When the timer has timed out, it will end the charge cycle and IC LTC4056 gets shut down. when input power is not present, the CHRG pin is pushed to a high impedance.
