Push On Push OFF Button LED Circuit

In this tutorial, we are going to design a soft touch switch circuit. By soft touch, it means that one has to push the button once to set the device ON and push it again to set the device OFF. For this purpose, we are using a Self-locking power micro push button switch.

The switch is the double pole double throw. The switch operates either as normally open or normally closed depending on the requirements. It works like a flip-flop state. The double pole double throw uses two modes either normally open or normally closed.

Working Explanation

The push-button has six legs. The three legs are on one side whereas three are on the other side. The middle legs act as a common junction for both sides.
Normally the common terminal is connected to the upper legs as the switch is not pressed.

This allows the switch to operate in the normally open state. As the switch is pressed the common terminal connects to the lower legs. This allows the switch to operate in a normally closed state. The ON-OFF push button works as the button is pressed for the first time. It makes the circuit and allows the current to flow through it. The circuit will remain in this state until and unless the button is pressed again. This again breaks the circuit and remains in that state.

Application

  • It has numerous applications. It is used as a latching circuit. Also driving capacitance loads, and controlling power ON startup behaviors.
