Introduction

Circuits like regulated DC output are widely utilized in embedded systems. Basically, a regulated power supply provides the output that makes no changes if the changes would be made in input signals. In simpler words, you can say that the output is stable and independent of the input. To make the regulated output circuits several regulated ICs are available in the market but to understand the whole concept, circuitry, and how that work, in this tutorial, we are going to build a “Simple Regulated DC without Regulator IC”

Working Explanation

This simple Simple Regulated DC first uses the transformer that steps down the 115V-220V to 15V. After that, there is a full-wave rectifier circuit made from diodes, which converts both input’s positive and negative polarities into pulsating DC. The ripples are then filtered out by the capacitor C1. The transistor in the circuit act as the switch. Adjustable 6V to 12V output would be available across the resistor R1. The potentiometer is there to adjust this voltage.

Application and Uses

  • This circuit can be used in any application that requires the exact amount of output voltage
  • Mostly in Computer circuits.
  • Also, in Solar panels.
  • It is also used in mobile chargers
  • Moreover in television.
  • Further, in Printers.
  • Electrical vehicles.
  • Medical equipment also uses this in its applications.
  • Measurement devices also utilize this circuit.
