In this tutorial, we are going to make a “Sound Generator Circuit Using IC HK620”.

In different electronic designs, we need to add sound output. Here we design a simple sound generator circuit using IC HK620, which will make it easy to add sound or tone to an electronic prototype. The HK620 Integrated circuit from Honsitak electronics can produce six different Siren sound effects (Police, Fire, Ambulance, and Warbling Sound Included) each sound has an independent trigger key(K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6), and has fixed mode trigger on level hold type. Hence this IC can work as a stand-alone circuit. For sound output indication, it has one built-in LED flasher circuit. This IC is easy to Set-Up. It has a low power consumption, consumes only 3 volts during operation, and is most suitable for low-power applications.

This IC comes in a DIP 16-L package type, and each pin has an individual operation. It works in a trigger mode fixed on the level hold type. Sound or tone can be changed and each key required a Vdd supply as a trigger input.

Working Explanation

The main component in this circuit is IC HK620, here pin 10 (test) and pin 11 (out) of IC are kept in the open position. This circuit consumes 0.1 mA to 0.5 mA current during operation and utilizes 1 to 10 μA current during standby mode. It is most suitable for security system design, Alarm system designs that do not require microcontrollers and we can utilize this as a tone generator for our prototype. For this circuit, we need to use two AA-size batteries (1.5V x 2 = 3 V), because IC HK620 can operate from 1.8 V to 4.8 V voltages, and the typical voltage for operation is 3 Volt. Here for amplification purposes, we used 8Ω / 0.25 watts speaker and transistor BC547. Now 6 position DIP switch is connected with key pins and a Vdd supply pin, when the key goes high corresponding tone will generate. This circuit provides audible sound through the speaker but if you need huge audible sound then you have to place an amplifier and a higher watts speaker at the output.

Applications

Can be used in security and alarm system designs.
